Game Overview

Oh man, The Lost Vikings is one of those SNES gems that makes you realize how creative puzzle-platformers used to be. You control three vikings—Erik the fast one, Baleog the fighter, and Olaf with his shield—and have to switch between them constantly to get through each level. At first it feels kinda clunky, but once you get the hang of their abilities (like using Olaf’s shield as a platform or Erik’s headbutt to break walls), the puzzles get seriously clever.

The sequel, Norse by Norse West, adds two new characters and even weirder time-traveling levels. Some of the later stages will make you stare at the screen for way too long before going “ohhhh, THAT’S how you do it.” Definitely one of those games where you’ll accidentally solve a puzzle just by button-mashing out of frustration.

It’s got that classic Blizzard charm too—goofy dialogue, ridiculous cutscenes, and way more personality than most puzzle games. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you.
