Game Overview

Oh man, The Lost Vikings on SNES is such a clever little puzzle-platformer. You get these three goofy Norse dudes—Erik the speedy one, Baleog who fights with a sword and bow, and Olaf with his shield that can block attacks and double as a platform. At first I kept forgetting who could do what, but once it clicks, you start seeing how their skills combo together in weird ways.

The levels are these compact obstacle courses where you’ve gotta switch between all three to get everyone to the exit alive. Sometimes Erik has to shoulder-charge a wall, then you swap to Olaf to shield-jump up somewhere, while Baleog clears out enemies with arrows. It’s got that classic Blizzard charm too—the Vikings bicker constantly, and there’s this one level where they get abducted by aliens that still cracks me up.

Fair warning though: some puzzles are brutal. I got stuck for ages on a water level where timing the shield blocks just right felt impossible. But nailing it? So satisfying. If you like old-school games that make you think (and occasionally yell at the screen), this one’s a gem.
