Game Overview

I first played The Lost Vikings on the Super Nintendo back in 1993, developed by Silicon & Synapse, who later became Blizzard. It was a time when platformers and action games dominated, but this one stood out for its focus on puzzles and teamwork, offering something different from the usual run-and-jump fare.

You control three Vikings, each with unique abilities: Erik runs fast and jumps high, Baleog attacks enemies with his sword and bow, and Olaf uses his shield to block attacks and create platforms. The goal is to guide all three to the exit in each level, often requiring you to split them up to solve environmental puzzles, like having Olaf hold his shield so Erik can bounce off it to reach a high ledge. The pacing is deliberate, and some puzzles can be quite challenging, demanding careful timing and coordination. It feels satisfying to finally piece together a solution after several attempts, hearing their goofy banter all the while.
