Game Overview

I first played The Lost Vikings on the Super Nintendo back in 1993, developed by Silicon & Synapse, who would later become Blizzard. It was a time when platformers and action games dominated, but this one stood out for its focus on puzzles and teamwork rather than speed or combat. It felt different from the usual SNES fare, more thoughtful and deliberate.

You control three vikings, each with unique abilities: Erik can run and jump, Baleog fights with a sword and bow, and Olaf uses his shield to block attacks and create platforms. The goal is to guide all three to the exit in each level, switching between them to solve environmental puzzles. You might have Erik jump across a gap, then switch to Olaf to block enemy projectiles, and finally use Baleog to clear a path with his sword. The pacing is slow and methodical; rushing leads to mistakes, and some puzzles require careful timing and coordination. It feels satisfying when all three finally make it through, like solving a tricky riddle with friends.
