If you've ever wished Mega Man had more RPG depth and less "die-and-retry" platforming, Battle Network 2 is your answer. You play as Lan, a kid who basically lives in two worlds—the real one and the digital net where his NetNavi, MegaMan.EXE, fights viruses and rogue AIs. The combat’s this weirdly satisfying mix of real-time movement and card-based attacks—you’re dodging enemy shots on a grid while frantically selecting chips from your deck to counter them.
The first hour throws you into this neon-soaked cyber world where you’re already dealing with shady organizations and glitched-out programs. The pixel art still holds up, especially during battles where everything lights up with flashy attacks. And yeah, the music slaps—that GBA soundchip somehow pumps out these crunchy techno beats that get stuck in your head.
What I like about this one over the first game? More chips to collect (some are stupidly rare), way meaner boss fights, and a story that actually goes places. There’s even a postgame if you really want to test your folder setup. Just don’t expect to breeze through—some of those later fights will wreck you if you don’t plan ahead.
