Game Overview

Mogul Maniac is this weirdly immersive Atari 2600 skiing game where you're barreling down slopes in first-person (though you can see your skis poking out at the bottom of the screen). The whole thing feels like you're actually picking up speed, which is impressive for a game from this era.

You've got to weave between these colored gate poles—red and blue—without missing any, or you'll either get a time penalty (on novice) or instantly get disqualified (on expert). The expert mode is brutal, but at least it lets you finish your run even after screwing up, which is weirdly satisfying.

There are nine different courses, and the best part? You can play with as many people as you want, passing the controller around to see who can set the fastest time. It's simple, but the way the speed ramps up makes it way more intense than you'd expect.

Just don't be surprised when you start leaning sideways in your chair trying to dodge those gates.
