Maniac Mansion came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, developed by Lucasfilm Games. You solve puzzles by using items on the environment and talking to the strange inhabitants of the house; one character might fix electrical equipment while another can play music to influence events. The game requires a lot of experimentation and careful saving, as it's easy to get stuck or even cause a game over by making a wrong move. It feels like piecing together a strange, interactive story where your choices genuinely matter.
