Game Overview

Mortal Kombat II on SNES is where the series really hit its stride—way smoother than the first game, and way more brutal (in that pixelated 90s way). You’ve got new fighters like Baraka and Kitana joining the roster, and the fatalities? Oh man, they’re gnarlier than ever. I spent way too many afternoons in my friend’s basement trying to nail Scorpion’s spear move just right.

The controls feel tighter, and the backgrounds actually have little details now—like the Living Forest trees grabbing losers who get knocked into them. It’s still janky by today’s standards, but back then, this was as good as fighting games got. Just don’t let your little brother see you rip someone’s spine out.
