Game Overview

Mortal Kombat II on Game Boy is still shockingly brutal for a tiny cartridge—somehow they squeezed all the blood and fatalities in there. The controls feel way smoother than the first one, and you’ve got new fighters like Baraka and Kitana to rip spines out with. It’s missing a few stages from the arcade version, but honestly, I was just impressed it ran at all on this thing.

First thing you’ll notice? Scorpion’s spear actually works now instead of glitching halfway across the screen. And yeah, the pixels are chunky, but watching Sub-Zero freeze someone and shatter them never gets old, even in black-and-green. Just don’t play it in the dark unless you like squinting at tiny fatalities.
