N.Y. Race is one of those Game Boy Color racers that somehow slipped under the radar, but it’s a total blast. You’re weaving through New York traffic in a tiny pixelated car, swerving around taxis and buses while trying not to wipe out on sharp turns. The controls are tight—tap left or right to dodge, hold down to boost—and before long, you’re sliding past rivals like you own the road.

What I love is how chaotic it gets. One second you’re in the lead, the next you’re spinning out because some delivery truck decided to merge without warning. The power-ups help (nitro boosts, temporary invincibility), but the real challenge is learning the tracks. That last hairpin in Central Park? Brutal. Also, the fact it’s in six languages is just a weird little bonus—like finding an extra fry at the bottom of the bag.

If you miss the days when racing games were more about reflexes than realism, this one’s a pocket-sized adrenaline kick. Just don’t blame me when you keep replaying for a cleaner lap.
