Play NBA Live 99 Online

Dunking feels heavy, players actually react when you foul them, and the season mode lets you make terrible trades just like a real GM. That three-point contest still trips me up though.

Game Overview

NBA Live 99 came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, developed by EA Sports. It was one of the better basketball games on the system at the time, competing with titles like Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside. The graphics were solid for the era, with player models that were recognizable and courts that felt authentic.

You control a full team of five players, switching between them to play defense, set picks, and drive to the hoop. The main goal is to outscore the opponent, either in a single game or across a full season. Signature mechanics include the turbo button for bursts of speed, the alley-oop pass for flashy plays, and manual shot aiming where you hold the button to control arc and release. The pace is fast but manageable, with a moderate learning curve for newcomers. It feels responsive and physical, especially when fighting for rebounds or driving through contact.
