Operation: Vietnam came out for the Nintendo DS in 2008, published by Mastiff. It was part of that wave of DS games that tried to use the touchscreen for something more tactical, something beyond just another platformer or puzzle game. You control a squad of soldiers, moving them screen by screen through hostile jungle and villages. The main objective is to complete missions by eliminating enemy forces and securing objectives, all while keeping your team alive. Signature mechanics include using the stylus to direct your squad's movement and attacks, managing their limited ammunition and health supplies, and reacting to ambushes that can come from any direction. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you rush. It feels like a careful, tense game of survival where every decision carries weight.
