Game Overview

Orel Hershiser's Strike Zone came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, a collection that tried to bring solid sports titles to the PC. It was developed by MindSpan Technologies and published by Spectrum HoloByte, arriving at a time when baseball games were still figuring out how to translate the feel of the sport from consoles to the keyboard.

You control the pitcher, Orel Hershiser, and your job is to outsmart a lineup of batters inning after inning. The main objective is to get through the game with as few runs scored as possible. Signature mechanics include selecting your pitch type, like a fastball or curve, and then using a targeting cursor to precisely place the ball at the edges of the strike zone. The batters have their own personalities; some are aggressive, some patient, and they will foul off good pitches, making you work for every out. The pacing is deliberate, each pitch a small battle of wits, and the difficulty comes from the increasing pressure as runners get on base. It feels like a genuine test of concentration and control.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
