Game Overview

Panzer Dragoon Saga on the Sega Saturn is one of those games that feels way ahead of its time—especially for a disc-based RPG in the late '90s. The first disc throws you right into this weird, beautiful world where you’re riding a dragon (well, more like a bio-mechanical creature) and fighting off flying battleships mid-air. The combat’s this weird hybrid of turn-based and real-time where you’re constantly circling enemies, dodging shots, and lining up your own attacks.

What got me hooked early was how strange and lonely the atmosphere is. You’re just this guy, Edge, stranded in a desert with no idea what’s going on, and the game doesn’t hold your hand. The cutscenes are these grainy FMV bits that somehow add to the mystery instead of feeling cheap. By the end of Disc 1, you’ll have more questions than answers—in a good way.

Fair warning: the Saturn’s 3D hasn’t aged perfectly, but the art direction and soundtrack make up for it. If you’re into RPGs that actually feel like adventures instead of just menus and grinding, this one’s worth digging up.
