Pokemon Blue Legend is one of those GBA rom hacks that feels familiar but throws in enough changes to keep you guessing. The early game is pretty standard - pick a starter, fight some trainers, grind a bit - but then you start noticing little tweaks in the wild encounters and gym leader teams.

I remember getting stuck around the third gym because my team just wasn't balanced right. The level curve feels steeper than usual, so you can't just brute force your way through. Had to actually think about type matchups for once instead of just overleveling my starter.

It's not perfect - some of the map transitions are janky, and there's the occasional untranslated text box - but if you've played the originals to death, Pokemon Blue Legend gives you a reason to pay attention again.
