Game Overview

Puzzle Bobble came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Taito. It was one of those games that felt right at home on the system, a straightforward but clever puzzle title that stood out among the platformers and RPGs of the era. It didn't try to be epic; it just offered a clean, colorful challenge that was easy to pick up but kept you coming back.

You control one of the bubble dragons, Bub or Bob, at the bottom of the screen, aiming and firing colored bubbles upward to match groups of three or more of the same color. The main goal is to clear each screen of bubbles before they descend and trap you. Key mechanics include banking shots off the walls to hit tricky angles and creating chain reactions by popping supporting bubbles to drop large sections at once. The pacing starts relaxed but quickly becomes tense as the ceiling lowers, forcing quick decisions. It feels satisfying to watch a well-planned shot clear half the screen in one go.
