Game Overview
Race Driver GRID on the DS surprised me—it’s way more intense than I expected from a handheld racer. You start off with a beat-up hatchback, but after a few messy races (expect some bumper cars at first), you earn enough to upgrade to proper speed machines. The tracks feel tight on the small screen, which actually makes drifting around corners way more satisfying when you nail it.
What I like is that it doesn’t hold your hand—mess up a turn, and you’ll be eating barriers while the AI zooms past. The career mode’s got this gritty garage vibe where your car actually looks worse for wear after crashes, scratches and all. Not quite console-level, but for a DS game? It’s got teeth.
Just don’t expect to win every race on the first try—some of those later events will have you restarting until your thumbs ache.
