Game Overview

RealSports Boxing on the Atari 2600 is way more fun than it has any right to be. You pick from four boxers—two white, two Black, which was pretty rare back then—and each one actually fights differently. Some are slow but hit like a truck, others are quick but glass jaws. Took me a few rounds to figure out who worked best for my style.

The ring feels weirdly spacious for an Atari game—you can sidestep, duck, even backpedal if you're getting hammered. There's this little power bar that drops every time you eat a punch, and landing a clean hook when it's low knocks them out cold. Two-player mode gets chaotic fast, especially when you both start button-mashing. It's janky, sure, but in that charming early-80s way where you forgive the pixels because the core punch-dodge rhythm just clicks.

Still holds up if you're into retro sports games that prioritize fun over realism.
