Game Overview

Rise of the Dragon drops you into a grimy, neon-soaked LA in 2053 where everything smells like rain and bad decisions. You play as Blade Hunter, an ex-cop turned PI with a serious case on his hands—the mayor’s daughter got butchered, and nobody wants you poking around. The whole thing feels like a cyberpunk noir comic come to life, with these moody hand-painted backdrops and real actors’ faces slapped onto characters. It’s weirdly immersive for something from the Amiga era.

What I love is how little hand-holding there is. You’ve got an actual in-game clock ticking away, so if you waste too much time drinking synth-whiskey at the bar, you’ll miss leads. Conversations matter too—pick the wrong dialogue option, and suddenly you’re staring at a game over screen because some gangster didn’t like your tone. There are a couple of clunky side-scrolling shootouts, but honestly, dying a few times lets you skip them (unless you’re playing the Sega CD version, which forces you to suffer through them).

It’s one of those games where you actually feel like a detective, not just someone clicking through inventory puzzles. You’ll be scribbling notes, second-guessing every choice, and probably getting Blade killed a lot before things click. The greenish tint on the Sega CD port gives everything this weird, sickly vibe that somehow works. Just don’t expect a happy ending—this is cyberpunk, after all.
