Okay, so Sailor Moon Super S - Various Emotion is one of those Sega Saturn gems that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s basically a love letter to Super S fans. You get this weird but fun mix of side-scrolling beat-em-ups and visual novel-style storytelling, complete with all the sparkly transformation sequences and dramatic pauses you’d expect.

The combat’s simple but satisfying—you’re mostly mashing buttons as Sailor Moon or the other Scouts to wipe out waves of enemies, but the animations are so over-the-top and faithful to the anime that it’s hard not to grin. And yeah, the dialogue’s all in Japanese, but if you’ve seen the show, you’ll recognize the key moments (and if not, the expressive sprites do half the work anyway).

It’s definitely more of a nostalgia trip than a deep fighting game, but for a 90s Saturn title, it nails the magical girl vibe. Just don’t expect it to reinvent the wheel.
