Tiny Gundams wreck everything in this SNES brawler—dodging missiles, slashing through Zakus, and causing ridiculous explosions with those weighty beam saber swings. The chibi sprites bounce around like they’re having way too much fun.

Game Overview

SD Gundam X is one of those SNES games that somehow slipped under the radar, which is a shame because it’s pure, chaotic fun. You’re basically controlling these chibi versions of classic Gundams—tiny, exaggerated, and surprisingly nimble—as they tear through waves of enemies in side-scrolling mayhem. Beam sabers feel weighty when you land a hit, and dodging missile salvages actually requires some quick thinking.

It’s not trying to be a deep tactical experience—just a fast, flashy brawler where you can slash a Zaku in half and then immediately jump into a screen-filling explosion. The sprites have this goofy charm, like the animators were grinning the whole time they designed them. If you’ve got nostalgia for 16-bit action or just want a break from overly serious mecha games, this one’s a riot.

Also, the music slaps. That bassline during the first stage still gets stuck in my head.
