Play SegaSonic Bros. Online

You scramble to match chunky Sega sprites on a grid as the timer speeds up—Sonic, Tails, even that weird Flicky bird—while the music amps up the panic. Feels like Puyo Puyo crossed with a Sega fever dream.

Game Overview

SegaSonic Bros. is one of those arcade gems that makes you wonder why it wasn’t more popular. You’re dropped into this grid of little Sega characters—Sonic, Tails, even weird ones like that blue blob from Flicky—and you’ve gotta match them before the timer runs out. Sounds simple, but the speed ramps up fast, and suddenly you’re frantically swapping tiles while the music gets more frantic.

What I love is how it feels like a mix between Puyo Puyo and a Sega museum exhibit. The sprites are chunky and bright, exactly what you’d want from a mid-90s arcade cabinet. And yeah, you’ll probably mess up the first few rounds figuring out which combos clear faster (hint: chain the Eggman tiles). It’s the kind of game where you’ll lean closer to the screen without realizing it.

If you’ve got MAME set up, this one’s worth a few credits—just don’t blame me when you start muttering “one more try” at 2 AM.
