Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad is one of those classic Neo Geo run-and-gun games where you just blast through waves of enemies without overthinking it. You pick from four characters—each with their own weapons and playstyle—and then it’s straight into the chaos. I went with the flamethrower guy first, which was a mistake because his range is terrible, but man, setting everything on fire felt good.

The levels split into different paths after the first area, so you’re not stuck replaying the same route every time. And yeah, there are vehicles you can hop into for some extra firepower, which is always a nice surprise when you’re getting swarmed. The keyword letter thing is a neat touch—basically, if you grab all the letters in a hidden word, your score gets a nice boost. Not that I ever found them all on my first try.

It’s fast, loud, and exactly what you’d expect from a Neo Geo arcade shooter. The bosses are ridiculous in the best way possible.
