Game Overview

Sid Meier's CivNet came out in 1995 for MS-DOS, published by MicroProse. It was one of the first serious attempts to bring Civilization's deep, turn-based strategy into multiplayer over dial-up or LAN. At the time, playing a full game of Civilization against other people, not just AI, felt like a glimpse into the future of strategy gaming.

You lead a civilization from the ancient era into the space age, managing cities, researching technologies, and negotiating with rivals. The main goal is to achieve dominance through conquest, diplomacy, culture, or space race victory. Key mechanics include managing city production and happiness, engaging in tactical combat with combined arms units, and navigating complex diplomacy with human opponents who can form alliances or betray you without warning. Games unfold slowly, often over many hours, with tension building as borders expand and late-game technologies unlock. Outthinking another person across eras provides a satisfaction that single-player just can't match.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
