Game Overview

Sid Meier's Colonization came out in 1995 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, developed and published by MicroProse Software. It was a time when strategy games often demanded patience and planning, and this one fit right into that thoughtful, methodical style of play.

You control a European colonial power, managing settlers, building towns, and developing resources like tobacco and cotton. The main goal is to achieve independence by building a strong enough economy and military to rebel against your home nation. Key mechanics include exploring the New World tile by tile, negotiating with native tribes, and training specialists like carpenters or gunsmiths to improve your colony's output. The game moves slowly, with careful resource management being essential, and the difficulty ramps up as you balance growth with rising tensions. It feels like a deep, absorbing simulation where every decision carries weight for your budding nation.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
