Game Overview

I remember picking up Sierra's 3-D Helicopter Simulator back in 1987, a Sierra On-Line release for MS-DOS. It was one of those early attempts at 3D flight simulation, running on hardware that could barely handle wireframe graphics. You had to have a certain patience for that era, where just getting the game to run felt like part of the challenge.

You pilot a helicopter through a sparse, polygonal landscape, navigating canyons and landing on small pads. The main objective is simply to complete missions, which often involve flying from point A to B without crashing. The signature mechanics are the unforgiving flight model, requiring constant adjustment to pitch and yaw, and the sparse, first-person cockpit view that offers little situational awareness. The pacing is slow and deliberate, every movement feeling heavy and consequential. It feels like wrestling with a stubborn machine, where a successful flight is a genuine accomplishment.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
