I picked up The Simpsons Game on Nintendo DS back in 2007, a time when licensed games were everywhere and you never quite knew what you were getting. Electronic Arts published it, and it was one of those titles that tried to squeeze the show's humor onto the small screen, with mixed but often charming results.

You control different members of the Simpsons family, each with their own abilities; Bart uses his slingshot to hit enemies from a distance, Marge vacuums up obstacles with her megaphone, and Homer, well, he mostly just eats everything in sight. The goal is to work through levels inspired by the show, solving simple puzzles and fighting off enemies. You tap the screen to perform special moves, like stopping Homer from eating too much, and swap characters to use their skills in the right situations. The pacing is straightforward, not too hard, but it keeps you engaged with variety. It feels like a lighthearted, silly trip through Springfield that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
