Game Overview

Sonic Advance arrived on the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Dimps and published by Sega. It was one of the first attempts to bring Sonic's classic 2D speed to a handheld, arriving at a time when the GBA library was filling up with platformers and remakes. This wasn't a port, but a new entry designed to feel right at home on the system.

You control Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, each with their own movement abilities, as you race through seven themed zones to stop Dr. Eggman. The core gameplay involves building momentum to blast through loops, bouncing off springs, and grinding on rails. You collect rings for protection, hunt down giant Chaos Emeralds in special stages, and face some genuinely tough boss fights, especially in the later acts. It feels fast, responsive, and satisfying when you chain moves together without breaking stride.
