Play Sonic Rush Online
Sonic and Blaze tear through wild obstacle courses, flipping between screens while pulling off mid-air tricks to fuel insane speed boosts. That split-second timing when you chain moves and rocket through a level? Pure adrenaline.
Sonic Rush came out on the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed by Sega and Dimps. It arrived early in the DS lifecycle, a time when developers were still figuring out how to use the dual screens and touch controls in meaningful ways. This game stood out by focusing on what the system could do for speed and spectacle, rather than forcing gimmicks.
You control either Sonic or Blaze the Cat, racing through side-scrolling stages filled with loops, springs, and enemies. The main goal is to reach the end of each act as fast as possible, often while hunting for Chaos Emeralds. Signature mechanics include using the bottom screen for special tricks performed with the stylus, which builds your boost meter; chaining these tricks lets you unleash incredible bursts of speed. The game is fast and demanding, with level designs that punish hesitation. It feels like walking a tightrope at a hundred miles per hour, where one mistake can send you flying into a pit or an enemy, but nailing a perfect run is intensely satisfying.
