This is the classic Sonic 2 we all love, but with some sneaky tweaks that make it feel fresh again. You still blast through Green Hill Zone at ridiculous speeds, but now there are little surprises—hidden shortcuts, altered enemy placements, even some new sprite work if you look closely.

Tails is way less annoying here too. He doesn’t just kamikaze into every enemy like in the original, which makes playing co-op actually fun instead of frustrating. And Robotnik’s boss fights? Some of them have new patterns that’ll catch you off guard if you’ve memorized the vanilla version.

It’s still unmistakably Sonic 2—the physics feel right, the music slaps, and that moment when you hit a perfect spin dash down a slope never gets old. But the tweaks are thoughtful, like someone polished your favorite game just enough without ruining it. Definitely the best way to replay this one.
