Game Overview

Space Ace Disk 3 came out for the Amiga in 1989, developed by ReadySoft Incorporated. It was part of that wave of laser disc style games that tried to bring arcade cinematic action home, though it demanded a lot from the hardware and the player's reflexes. You either loved the challenge or found the whole thing frustrating.

You control the hero, Dexter, or his buff alter ego Space Ace, through a series of animated action sequences. The main goal is to rescue Kimberly and stop the villain Borf. The gameplay revolves almost entirely around quick time events; you watch the animation and have to press the correct direction or button at the exact right moment to dodge an attack, fire your blaster, or make a jump. Missing an input usually means instant death, sending you back to try the sequence again. It feels less like playing a game and more like memorizing a rhythm, a test of pattern recognition above all else.
