Game Overview

Space Ace II: Borf's Revenge is one of those weird early '90s laserdisc-to-DOS ports where you mostly just watch an animated Don Bluth cartoon and occasionally mash a key to keep it going. It's basically a digital version of those "choose your own adventure" books, but with way more dramatic death scenes when you pick wrong.

You play as Dexter, this cocky space cadet who can transform into the buff hero Space Ace when things get dicey. The whole game is just 27 short scenes where you frantically hit arrow keys or the insert button at exactly the right moment to dodge traps or shoot enemies. Miss the timing by half a second? Congrats, enjoy watching Dexter get vaporized again. There's something oddly satisfying about the over-the-top animations though—like a Saturday morning cartoon where the hero dies horribly every five minutes.

Honestly, it's more of an interactive movie than a real game. The MS-DOS version feels especially barebones compared to the arcade original, with some scenes straight-up missing. But if you're into retro weirdness or just want to see Don Bluth's animation style in pixel form, it's a fun little time capsule. Just don't expect deep gameplay—you're basically just keeping the cartoon alive with well-timed button presses.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
