Spanky's Quest came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, published by Natsume. It was part of that early wave of SNES games that were still figuring out what the system could do, sitting alongside a lot of colorful, experimental platformers and action titles that didn't always get a lot of attention.

You control a monkey named Spanky who attacks by bouncing a magic bubble from his wand; hitting an enemy with it turns them into fruit, which you then collect. The main goal is to climb a series of towers, screen by screen, to rescue a kidnapped princess. The core mechanics involve careful aiming to ricochet your bubbles off walls and floors, plus collecting different wands that change your bubble's properties, like its speed or bounce height. The pacing is deliberate, almost puzzle-like, as you figure out the angles in each room, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly with some mean enemy placements. It feels like a strange, methodical twist on the typical action platformer.
