Game Overview

Spike’s Peak is one of those classic Atari 2600 games that looks simple until you actually try it. You start at the base of a mountain, just a little guy walking toward the slope—but those innocent meadows at the bottom? They’re crawling with bears and eagles that’ll wreck you if you’re not careful. You can duck into caves to hide, but stay too long and you’ll freeze. Jumping over bears feels risky but weirdly satisfying when you pull it off.

Once you survive the meadows, things get worse. The rocky ledge screen throws boulders and crumbling rocks at you, and the icy peak is a nightmare of avalanches and an abominable snowman who just won’t quit. If you somehow make it to the summit, you’ve got to plant your flag before your character turns into a popsicle. The difficulty levels mean you can ease into the pain or just dive straight into misery. It’s tough, but the kind of tough that makes you want to try one more time.
