Game Overview

Star Trek: First Contact was released in 1996 by Simon & Schuster Interactive for MS-DOS, a time when point-and-click adventures were common but often unforgiving. The game puts you in the role of a Starfleet officer during a Borg invasion, and it relies heavily on text parsers and static screens to tell its story. It feels very much of its era, with pixelated graphics and a deliberate pace that requires patience.

You control your character through typed commands, interacting with objects and crew members to solve puzzles and advance the plot. The main objective is to repel the Borg by finding key items, repairing systems, and making strategic choices across different parts of the ship. Signature mechanics include navigating screen by screen, combining inventory items in logical ways, and conversing with characters through a limited dialogue interface. The pacing is slow, and the difficulty can be high due to vague hints and the parser's strict vocabulary. Playing it feels like a constant negotiation between your intentions and the game's understanding.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
