Game Overview

Star Wars: Jedi Arena on the Atari 2600 is basically lightsaber tennis with a floating droid called the "seeker" doing all the shooting for you. You and another player (or the AI) bounce laser bolts back and forth, trying to chip away at each other’s energy shields. The trick? You don’t actually fire anything—you just angle your saber to deflect shots toward your opponent.

At first, it feels a little clunky—like you’re waving a paddle at a very slow bullet—but once you get the timing down, it’s weirdly satisfying. The seeker drifts around unpredictably, so you’re constantly adjusting. And if you’re feeling mean, you can crank up the speed or even turn the seeker invisible in the options. First to three shield breaks wins, and bragging rights are mandatory.

It’s not the flashiest Star Wars game, but for 1983, it’s a surprisingly clever take on lightsaber duels.
