Play Star Wars Online

You jump, crash, and barely dodge as Luke in a weird little Game Boy mashup—one minute you're platforming, the next you're flying the Falcon through potato-shaped asteroids. It's janky but has that "how did they even do this?" charm.

Game Overview

Star Wars on the Game Boy came out in 1992, developed by Beam Software and published by Ubisoft. It was a time when handheld games were often ambitious ports or condensed adventures, and this one tried to capture the feel of the original trilogy in a small package. The hardware limitations were obvious, but it was impressive just to have a full Star Wars game you could carry in your pocket.

You control Luke Skywalker through side-scrolling platforming sections, pilot his X-wing in top-down space battles, and even fly the Millennium Falcon in a first-person asteroid field. The main goal is to progress through levels based on scenes from the films, like escaping the Death Star or battling AT-ATs on Hoth. You use a lightsaber to deflect blaster bolts back at stormtroopers, jump across narrow platforms, and collect power-ups to restore health or gain temporary shields. The game moves at a brisk pace, but the controls can feel stiff, and some sections are unforgiving. It feels like a condensed, sometimes clumsy, but earnest attempt to put the Star Wars universe in your hands.
