They didn’t just slap on a fresh coat of pixels, though. The addition of save files is a godsend, especially when Lost Levels decides to crush your soul for the tenth time. And little things—like how Mario’s overalls look crisper or how fireballs leave a satisfying trail—make the whole package feel like the definitive way to play these. If you’ve only ever experienced these games through blurry CRT screens, this version will ruin the originals for you (in the best way).
