Super Mario World came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed and published by Nintendo. It was a launch title for the console, a clear step forward from the NES games with its colorful, expansive levels and a lot more going on in the background.

You control Mario, or Luigi if a second player joins, running and jumping through a world map to reach Bowser and rescue Princess Peach. The game introduced Yoshi, a dinosaur you can ride to eat enemies and gain special abilities, and the Cape Feather, which lets you fly after building up enough speed. The levels are packed with secrets, like multiple exits that unlock new paths, and the difficulty builds steadily without ever feeling cheap. It feels like a playground where every jump and discovery is its own little reward.
