Super Mario World came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of those foundational games that really showed what the SNES could do, with its bright colors and smooth scrolling levels that felt huge compared to what came before.

In this version, you control a Koopa Troopa instead of Mario, moving through familiar levels with a completely different set of rules. You slide on your shell to gain speed, knock enemies out of the way, and use your wings to flutter short distances. The goal is still to reach the end of each stage, but the way you interact with the environment changes everything; you can't jump on most enemies, so you rely on your shell and momentum. The pacing is quick and the challenge comes from mastering this slippery movement. It feels surprisingly freeing to navigate the world as one of the usual bad guys.
