Super Mario World came out in 1990 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of the system's earliest and most defining platformers, setting a standard for what the hardware could do with its colorful graphics and expansive levels.
You control Mario, or Luigi if a second player joins, working your way through side-scrolling stages to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser. The game introduces Yoshi, a dinosaur companion you can ride to eat enemies and reach new areas, and the cape feather that lets you fly temporarily after a running start. Levels are filled with secret exits and alternate paths, encouraging exploration off the main route. The pacing is brisk, though some later stages and the special zones ramp up the challenge significantly. It feels responsive and full of possibility, with each playthrough offering chances to find something you missed before.
