You'll recognize the colorful landscapes and that bouncy soundtrack, but don't get too comfortable. The levels twist in ways the original never did, with sneaky enemy placements and jumps that'll have you sweating. I died three times on the very first stage before realizing this wasn't going to be a nostalgia cruise.

Yoshi's still here, thank goodness, but even he feels more necessary now. Some of the new power-up placements are downright devious—I won't spoil where, but let's just say you'll learn to appreciate fire flowers in ways you never did before. The difficulty walks this weirdly satisfying line between "I see what you did there" and "how was I supposed to know that was coming?"
