Super Mario World - Tale of Elementia is one of those rare ROM hacks that actually makes you stop and go, "Wait, this is good." It starts off feeling like the classic SNES game—same crisp jumps, same satisfying spin jumps—but then you grab your first elemental orb and suddenly Mario's shooting fireballs or creating water platforms mid-air. The first time I got the wind power and realized I could float just a little longer over gaps, it completely changed how I approached levels.

The level designs are clever without being cruel, playing with the new mechanics in ways that feel natural. One early puzzle has you switching between fire and water to melt ice blocks while avoiding steam traps—simple but surprisingly fun to figure out. And yeah, Yoshi's still here, though now he occasionally gets elemental buffs too (fire-breathing Yoshi is exactly as ridiculous and amazing as it sounds).

What really sells it is how polished everything feels. The controls are as tight as the original, and the new sprites blend in seamlessly. If you've ever wanted to replay Super Mario World but wished it had a few fresh surprises, this is the hack to try. Just don't blame me when you lose an afternoon to it.
