Game Overview

Super Mario World - The 2nd Try is one of those romhacks that feels like it could’ve been official DLC back in the day—if Nintendo had done that sort of thing in the '90s. The first few levels trick you into thinking it’s just a prettier version of the original, but then you hit a jump that’s just slightly tighter, or a hidden block that’s not where muscle memory says it should be. It’s sneaky like that.

Yoshi still eats everything in sight, the music’s the same earworms you’ll hum for days, but the level layouts? They’ve got this cheeky way of playing with expectations. Found myself grinning at a few of the twists—like a familiar-looking pipe leading somewhere completely different. Not brutal, just… mischievous. Perfect if you’ve beaten the original a dozen times and want that "wait, how did I not see that coming?" feeling again.

Bowser’s still a jerk, by the way. Some things never change.
