Super Star Wars on SNES throws you right into the trenches of Episode IV—you start as Luke with his dinky blaster, blasting stormtroopers in Tatooine’s canyons before eventually unlocking Han and Chewie (who, let’s be honest, feel way more powerful with their flamethrowers). The levels nail the movie’s big moments—rescuing Leia, dodging trash compactors, the Death Star trench run—but with way more jumping over bottomless pits and collecting blaster upgrades than you’d expect.

Luke’s lightsaber is a game-changer when you finally get it, letting you slice through troopers instead of plinking away with pew-pew shots. Some levels swap the platforming for speeder or X-Wing sections, which feel janky by today’s standards but were mind-blowing at the time with their fake-3D swooping turns. The PS4 version cleans up the controls a bit and adds trophies, but the pixelated SNES chaos is where the charm’s at. It’s brutally hard in spots, but nailing that perfect blaster upgrade run feels so good.
