Play Survival in New York City Online

Dodge pixel taxis, get chased by a hot dog guy, and scrounge for change in this gloriously janky ‘90s MS-DOS chaos simulator. The streets are mean, but the nonsense is weirdly charming.

Game Overview

Survival in New York City was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, though I don't recall the developer or publisher offhand. It came out in an era when games were often experiments, rough around the edges but full of personality. This one fits right in, a product of its time with simple graphics and a straightforward premise.

You control a character trying to survive a day in the city, navigating screen by screen while avoiding hazards like aggressive taxi drivers and a persistent hot dog vendor. The main goal is to collect enough money to get by, which involves picking up coins and maybe finding other items. The pacing is frantic; you're constantly watching for threats, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving. It's a strange mix of tension and absurdity that makes each attempt memorable.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
