The Berenstain Bears in the Dark is an educational MS-DOS game adapted from the beloved children’s book of the same name. The story follows Sister Bear, who becomes afraid of the dark after Brother Bear reads her a scary tale—only for the tables to turn when he later finds himself spooked as well. Designed as an interactive "Living Book," the game offers two play modes: Read To Me, which narrates the story, and Let Me Play, encouraging exploration by letting players interact with objects in each scene. Additionally, it includes two mini-games—Animal Match (a memory game) and Picture Jumble (a puzzle)—along with previews of other Living Books titles.Released during the height of interactive storybook software in the 1990s, the game stays faithful to the book’s gentle lesson about overcoming fear. A charming detail is the inclusion of CD audio tracks, allowing the story’s music to be played in a standard CD player.
