Game Overview

I first played The Games: Winter Challenge back in the late 80s, when Epyx released it for MS-DOS. It was part of that wave of multi-event sports titles that tried to capture the feel of the Olympics, or at least a decent afternoon in front of the computer. You didn't need a fancy setup; a keyboard and some patience were the main requirements.

You control an athlete competing in several winter sports, like bobsled, ski jump, and biathlon. The main objective is simple: perform well across all events to earn the highest total score. The bobsled event is a frantic test of timing, where you have to tap keys in a specific sequence to build speed before a tricky descent. The biathlon mixes cross-country skiing with a target shooting minigame that demands a steady hand, especially since your heart is still pounding from the ski section. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can spike without much warning. It feels like trying to keep five plates spinning at once, and the satisfaction comes from finally getting one event just right.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
