Game Overview

So, The Great Battle II is this weirdly charming SNES beat 'em up where Ultraman, a Gundam, Kamen Rider, and some Banpresto original dude team up to save their colony from monsters. It’s like someone took three totally different anime franchises, shrunk them into chibi versions, and threw them into a Final Fight-style brawler. And somehow, it works.

You pick one of the four heroes—each feels different, like Ultraman’s got these slow but heavy punches, while Gundam F91 is quicker with ranged shots. The cool part? You can swap characters mid-level if you’re getting wrecked. There’s a risk-reward thing with the charged shots too—they hit hard but drain your health, so you’ve gotta time it right. Oh, and if you grab enough energy capsules, you can unleash a screen-clearing super move that feels ridiculously satisfying.

Playing co-op is where it really shines, though. Certain character combos trigger special team attacks—some deal massive damage, others heal you. My friend and I spent way too long figuring out which pairs did what. The levels are all over the place—space stations, pyramids, even a moon base—and the bosses are these ridiculous, screen-filling monsters straight out of the original shows. Some fights even branch depending on how well you do, which was a nice surprise.

It’s not the deepest brawler out there, but the sheer absurdity of the crossover and the goofy SD style make it hard to put down. Just don’t forget to write down those passwords—you’ll need ‘em.
