Game Overview

Track and Field on the Atari 2600 is one of those games that makes you question whether your joystick will survive the session. You pick your event—sprinting, hurdles, long jump—and then it’s just you, the controller, and pure, frantic button-mashing chaos. The graphics? Yeah, they’re basically colored blocks, but somehow that just makes it better. Watching your little athlete stumble if you don’t mash fast enough is equal parts hilarious and infuriating.

What’s wild is how competitive it gets, even now. Play against a friend, and suddenly you’re both sweating, yelling at the screen, and accusing each other of cheating. The long jump is my personal nemesis—time it wrong, and your guy faceplants into the sand like a total amateur. It’s simple, ridiculous, and weirdly addictive. If you’ve got an Atari and a working thumb, this one’s a no-brainer.
